Thai Bankers Association Suggests 10 Ways to Conduct Online Transactions Safely
Mr. Payong Sriwinit, President of the Thai Bankers Association revealed that in light of the recent incidents of unusual deductions from customers' debit and credit cards, caused by fraudsters randomly obtaining card information and using it to make transactions through foreign online stores that lack identity verification systems before processing transactions,
The Thai Bankers Association, in collaboration with the Payment Systems Office, the IT Security Coordination Center for the Banking Sector (TB-CERT), the Credit Card Business Association, and the Fraud Prevention and Detection Association under the Thai Bankers Association, has come together to address the issue and implement proactive measures while continuously educating the public about cyber threats.

However, there are still groups of fraudsters attempting to deceive the public through various online channels such as SMS, Email, Facebook, Line, and fake websites. Therefore, the Association has compiled guidelines for conducting online financial transactions safely, enabling customers to transact with confidence as follows:
1. Conduct online financial transactions with reputable online stores.
2. Avoid making financial transactions or linking credit card information with online stores or platforms that do not have identity verification systems using OTP or do not employ 3D Secure technology.
3. Never share your OTP with anyone under any circumstances.
4. Set a password that is difficult to guess for online financial transactions.
5. Do not use the same password for online financial transactions and online stores.
6. Do not disclose personal information, including financial information such as account numbers, debit card numbers, credit card numbers, and CVV to others (banks do not have a policy to ask for customer information via phone, SMS, or social media).
7. Adjust the payment limit for purchases to suit online financial transactions or temporarily set the payment limit to zero if there is no intention to make purchases.
8. Monitor account notifications for incoming and outgoing funds from the bank and regularly check credit and debit card spending.
9. If you notice any unusual account activity, contact the card-issuing bank immediately. If in doubt, inquire through the bank's various service channels or the Bank of Thailand.
10. Stay updated with news from TB-CERT and the official channels of the bank.

The Thai Bankers Association assures that the services provided to customers of Thai commercial banks are secure at an international standard level. Customers are encouraged to consistently follow the 10 recommendations. If any unusual transactions are detected, they should contact the bank immediately, as the bank is ready to provide good and responsible service.
However, recent investigations have found that some individuals have posted "false" messages on social media. We urge them to cease such actions, as they do not benefit the management of damages for affected customers and create unnecessary panic among the public.
